A colleague sent me these thought provoking sentences regarding prayer, spirituality and revival. Consider carefully what these men of God have written and apply these parts which you find to be personally applicable.
When we go to God in prayer, the devil knows we go to fetch strength against him, and therefore he opposes us all he can.
Satan strikes either at the root of faith or at the root of diligence.
The effectiveness of the prayer program of a church will be in direct proportion to the depth of the individual prayer life of its members. Without a deep devotional life on the part of the participants, the group cannot muster great prayer power.
Since the days of Pentecost, has the whole church ever put aside every other work and waited upon Him for ten days, that the Spirit’s power might be manifested? We give too much attention to method and machinery and resources, and too little to the source of power. Hudson Taylor
That, which begins not with prayer, seldom winds up with comfort.
I have never known a person sweat blood; but I have known a person pray till the blood started from his nose. And I have known persons to pray till they were all wet with perspiration, in the coldest weather in winter. I have known persons pray for hours, till their strength was all exhausted with the agony of their minds. Such prayers prevailed with God. – Charles G. Finney
Christ was in an agony at prayer (Luke 22: 44). Many when they pray are rather in a lethargy, than in an agony. When they are about the world they are all fire; when they are at prayer, they are all ice.
If I cannot hear ‘the sound of rain’ long before the rain falls, and then go out to some hilltop of the Spirit, as near to my God as I can and have faith to wait there with my face between my knees, though six times or sixty times I am told ‘there is nothing’, till at last there arises a little cloud out of the sea, then I know nothing of Calvary love. (Read 1 Kings 18:41-45). – Amy Carmichael
It will not do for us to go to Heaven by ourselves. We must be on fire, friends for saving others. To be workers will draw heaven down and will draw others to heaven. Without a readiness to work, the Spirit of prayer will not come.” Prayer is the secret of power. Secret prayer is the spring-time of life.” – Evan Roberts
A man who is intimate with God will never be intimidated by men.
The main lesson about prayer is just this: Do it! Do it! Do it! You want to be taught to pray. My answer is pray and never faint, and then you shall never fail. There is no peradventure. You cannot fail. A sense of real want is at the very root of prayer.
It has often been said that prayer is the greatest force in the universe. This is no exaggeration. It will bear constant repetition. In this atomic age when forces are being released that stagger the thought and imagination of man, it is well to remember that prayer transcends all other forces.
“I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I would not have to destroy it; but I found no one.” – Ezekiel Chapter 22 verse 30.
Will our living loving gracious merciful God find people at this exceedingly needy time who will give themselves to prayer? I do not think the Church of Jesus Christ perceives just how serious this hour is?
